First Try, B+

Today I gave the three rabbits their first formal introduction. Overall, it went much better than I had expected.

I prepared the car by covering the backseat with a tarp, just in case any "accidents" happened. I then placed Sam and Rosie in the pet carrier and placed them in the backseat, with the pet carrier open. I then carried Flopper out and placed him on the seat and quickly turned on the car.

We drove around the neighborhood for 15 minutes and the bunnies did just what they were supposed to do: they huddled together. Flopper managed to squeeze himself into the carrier with the other two rabbits to find comfort from the scary car ride. No fighting or biting, just snuggling! Excellent!

Then, since all three were in the carrier, I carried them all up to Chris' room, and neutral territory, and let them out. At first they all ignored each other as they explored the room. Excellent! Sam and Flopper passed each other and ignored each other. Excellent! Flopper came upon Rosie and she put her head on the floor in a submissive pose. Excellent! Flopper tried to mount her, backwards, and she tolerated it. Excellent! (By the way, mounting in this context is not sexual. It is a way of establishing the pecking order) Flopper tried to mount Sam and he just hopped away. Excellent!

Everything was going great for about 10 minutes. Then Flopper mounted Rosie and Sam came over. Flopper turned around and tried to mount Sam and immediately a fight broke out, with fur flying and odd smells emitting. I squirt both bucks with water until I could scoop up Flopper, and threw him on the bed. Then I caught my breath, and took Flopper back to his bedroom. I gathered up Sam and Rosie and put them back in their pens. I checked both bucks to see if either was injured and everyone was alright.

Here is the aftermath:

Wow, that looks like quite a fight. I hope Flopper doesn't crush the other two rabbits when he mounts them.
