A brief History

Flopper, a Flemish Giant Rabbit, was born on June 1, 2007, the son of Paco and Fiesta. His parents were 12 lbs. and 14 lbs., respectively. Here is Flopper's dad:

I adopted Flopper on October 6, 2007, when he was four months old. He weighed 9.5 lbs! What a little baby! He was purchased from a breeder at a rabbit show in Santa Rosa. I know, I know, you think I was impulsive, but I have been researching F.Giants for some time now, extensively reading the House Rabbit Society's website, especially about introducing a new rabbit to other house rabbits. I emailed another breeder and she told me about the rabbit show. I discussed the matter with my husband, who was generally supportive, although I did make the final decision on my own, after leaving the show and going home for several hours to consider.

From the perspective of someone living with two chronic pain illnesses, having animal friends to love is very important to maintaining some sanity. I've been dreaming of having a FLemish Giant for years and kept thinking, someday. Well, when your future holds increasing disability, and you're fifty and not getting any younger, its not a good idea to wait for the elusive "someday". Flopper will be a lot of work, and there's a chance he won't get along with Sam and Rosie (more about them later), but already he's provided me with a year's worth of happiness in just two days!

I guess I'm going to have to get myself a bunny suit.

To anyone who sees this: My husband is the most loving, kind man in the world. He is tolerating all the mess and stink of bringing a new rabbit into the house, just to make me happy. (I think he likes Flopper, too!)
